The Buzz Franchise Brands Intern Experience

Scrabble letters spelling out INTERN

Summer is one of our favorite times in the Buzz Franchise Brands office. Aside from the iced coffee runs to Starbucks and Buzz Off Fridays, we also have the privilege of gaining a few extra sets of hands during our summer internship program.

Interns at the Buzz Franchise Brands office

2021 Summer Intern Program

With the growth we’ve had during the first half of the year, the Buzz Franchise Brands team was excited to get new, eager minds in the office with fresh ideas and perspectives. There were quite a few intern openings this year, ranging in focuses from finance to marketing to graphic design. After going through a rigorous interview process, we hand-picked a solid group of interns that were ambitious and enthusiastic to gain real life work experience.

Meet Our Interns

Meet the Marketing Interns

Chase Elser.JPG

Within the marketing department, we had three amazing interns: Chase, Dionne and Kevin. Chase served as our general marketing intern and had the opportunity to do a rotation under the brand directors for each of our three brands. She wrote blogs, promoted our Hope Floats partnerships, and even launched the Home Clean Heroes Instagram account and Spotify profile! Chase is a rising senior at the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs!). She is studying public relations and hopes to work on a branding team in a similar role to her internship, but also would like to focus on the creative aspects of branding in the future. In her free time, she enjoys painting, hot yoga and running.

Dionne Tucker.JPG

Dionne was our graphic design intern, and similar to Chase, worked on each individual brand for two weeks at a time, getting the opportunity to fully immerse herself in the voice and personality of the brands. She researched each brand’s social media accounts (and our competitors’ social media presence) and found new and refreshed ways to bring valuable content and messaging to social posts. Dionne is a rising sophomore at Old Dominion University. She is studying graphic design and her dream job would be as an art director of a branding agency. In her free time, she enjoys running, reading, and roller skating.

About her time as an intern with Buzz Franchise Brands, Dionne shared, “Ideas are encouraged and treated like potential opportunities. Everyone is very comfortable to share their opinions and ideas, which made me comfortable enough to voice my ideas and know they'd be taken seriously.”

Kevin Smedley.JPG

Kevin was our digital marketing intern and had the opportunity to learn skills focused on different aspects of digital marketing. He was immersed in search engine optimization, website content creation, A/B testing on our websites, and research related to new digital tools. Kevin is a rising third year at the University of Virginia and is studying economics and statistics. Kevin enjoys golfing and his dream job would be to run an international golf company.

All of our marketing interns were huge assets, bringing new content, platforms, and data to each of the brands.

Meet the Finance Interns

Austin Sisino.JPG

Austin, finance and analytics intern, is a rising junior at Virginia Tech. He graduated from Norfolk Academy and lives in Virginia Beach. Austin is no stranger to BFB, as he spent the summer of 2018 working as a technician for Mosquito Joe, was an intern last year (and happens to be related to one of our team members). He’s studying finance and investment management at Virginia Tech and enjoys playing soccer.

Austin shared, “Edward has been a great mentor over the past two summers; I have learned a lot about the financial field and data analytics. He always gave us projects and tasks that had a real impact at BFB. Due to his mentorship, I feel that I can now bring a lot of value to my next professional project or job.”

David Byler.JPG

David was also a finance and analytics intern alongside Austin. David is a rising Junior at Hampden-Sydney College. He is studying economics and rhetoric and has aspirations of being an entrepreneur. In his spare time, he enjoys going to the beach and reading. His favorite book is Catcher in the Rye.

Austin and David have been a huge support to our finance department and have knocked it out of the park with the data projects they’ve tackled.

A special thank you to all of our interns, who have not only demonstrated hard work and shared innovative ideas but were overall a pleasure to work with!
