Work Hard, Play Hard

Fire dancer at the Pool Scouts convention in Cancun, Mexico

The new year has brought many exciting things to look forward to: franchisees opening in new locations across the country, fresh goals and marketing plans created, and… new fun events to blow off some steam! Once a month, the Sanity Control Committee, or SCC as we call it, plans team bonding events to help us live out one of our core values - to have fun. The SCC has already hit the ground running in 2019, with creative and unique events that have helped us not only get to know each other better but have broadened our skill set! Here are a few of the fun things we’ve been up to over the past few months.

Franchisee Convention in Cancun

January, one of our favorite months here at Buzz Franchise Brands, means going to the Pool Scouts convention hosted in sunny Cancun, Mexico. Convention is a time for the Pool Scouts franchisees to come together and get some quality face time (and training/development time) with our corporate team. It’s an excellent opportunity for us to get to know each other better, as well as learn both from each other, and about what’s going on in the pool service industry as a whole. While these days are packed full of learning, we reserve the evenings for fun, social activities - from fire dancing shows to award dinners to beach-side receptions.

That’s not all! January also consisted of a happy hour at a new local restaurant and winery, Cooper’s Hawk, where the Home Clean Heroes team enjoyed an afternoon of wine tasting. The re-introduction of weekly Friday happy hours was put in place as well, which ends the week on a high note and offers a perfect start to the weekend! Cheers!

Trivia Thursday

In February, the SCC planned a trivia happy hour with Troy Trivia, in which teams were randomly created and put to the test. Not to mention, there were adult beverages and catering provided by Moe’s to get the thinking juices flowing. Although you could say the competition for trivia champ got heated, the event was a huge success!

March Madness

March was full of fun activities. There were happy hours to celebrate promotions as well as fulfilling a major milestone in the Home Clean Heroes business’ goals. Toastmasters, a nonprofit organization that promotes communication and public speaking skills, also came in one afternoon to lead a Lunch and Learn focused on sharpening our public speaking skills. One exercise involved being provided a topic at random and having to give a 1-2 minute speech in front of our fellow colleagues.

We also competed in a March Madness basketball bracket, because if we haven’t mentioned it, we get pretty competitive around the office. Congrats to Desiree, winner of the March Madness bracket competition (oh, and of course to UVA, the tournament champs. Wahoowa!). Desiree will receive a shiny new iPad and both Desiree and UVA garnered bragging rights for a year!

Cooking Class

On top of all the above mentioned festivities, last but not least, we enjoyed an interactive cooking class with Matthew May. We followed instructions on how to make New York strip, bourbon maple glazed salmon, spicy sea salt infused potatoes and lemon parmesan roasted asparagus. We learned some helpful tips (spray the salmon, not the pan!) as well as enjoyed a fantastic meal, complete with plenty of red wine!

With so many fun events right from the start of the new year, our SCC has set the bar high for entertainment for the coming months. We are excited to see what’s in store and will be sure to share our fun experiences on our Facebook page!
